We return with another from Lidl’s past craft beer festival with another from Loch Lomond Brewery who gave us the absolutely lovely ‘Lost in Mosaic’. This time around we’ve got ‘Great White’ which is a White IPA. I’ve not had this style of beer before so definitely excited. Apparently it is best described as a cross between your classic American IPA and a wheat beer. Could be an interesting combination if the flavours are balanced well.
On the pour you get a pale straw colour with a light haze. Incredible aroma with slight herbaceous notes and a mix of tinned peaches and a bit of blood orange. If you’ve ever had a Blue Moon it faintly reminds me of that with the wheaty orange elements coming through. The back of the can describes the taste as fruit salad and it absolutely is just that. Very reminiscent of the kind you get in cans, its packed with flavour and a good fizz to the beer gives it a lovely mouthfeel. You get the lightest reminder of it’s wheat beer origins but importantly it’s incredibly drinkable and refreshing.
A quick note on the can art: The only beers I’ve had to use this aerial photography for the can wraps. Another stunning one with either the loch or the sea at sunset. Gorgeous.
Get me up to Loch Lomond as soon as because this is another cracker from them. Packed with flavour it goes down like a dream at 5% ABV. The white IPA style, much like the black IPA, is one that has fascinated me and I will continuously be on the look out for as it combines two styles together brilliantly. I imagine they are no longer in stores but if there are any rogue ‘Great White’ cans in Lidl do yourself the favour and pick one up!
