Beer Review: Das Ist Techno Sex – Up Front Brewing

Today’s beer was also a gift (lots of my stock are to be fair, I’m very easy to buy for) from a friend at work! ‘Das Ist Techno Sex’ is a Passion fruit and Key Lime Gose from nomadic Glasgow brewers ‘Up Front’. The term ‘nomadic’ in the beer world tends to mean a brewery that rents/hires another brewery to make their beer as they haven’t got the space to do so. The recipes are of course their own however. This interesting sounding sour beer from ‘Up Front’ comes in at 5.4% ABV.

Pours a very hazy darker golden colour with a surprisingly good head for a sour beer. Lots of sediment in this one, likely fruit pulp. There isn’t too much on the nose although you can get an underlying aroma of tropical fruitiness. Flavour is all there with the passion fruit and key lime coming through crystal clear. Very sharp initial sip with a nice saltiness to the finish to add a degree of balance.

A quick note on the can art: Cracking can wrap in my opinion. A quick glance it looks incredibly simple with just the word on a silver wrapper. As you can see from the photo, however, the light refracts brilliantly creating a lovely rainbow effect.

Up Front Brewing are a relatively tiny brewery. I’d certainly never heard of them before and they only have just over three thousand Instagram followers. After this beer I will certainly be keeping my eye out for more. If you don’t like sours particularly, you will hate this as it is as tart as ever. However, there is solid balance as you very clearly get those fruit flavours punching through. As it is a gose style you get the saltiness, although I think Pink Himalayan salt is probably an unnecessary expense… but what do I know, I’m not a brewer. What I do know is it is ‘Sehr Gut’!

Score: 8.5/10
