This beer, gifted to me from a friend at work, is my first (non-lager) beer from Japan! Hitachino Nest Beer is a series brewed by Kiuchi Brewery who typically brew Japanese Sake and have been doing so since 1823. Hitachino is the name of the province where the brewery originates from. This particular beer I tried is the White Ale, so a take on the … Continue reading Beer Review: Hitachino Nest White Ale – Kiuchi Brewery
As winter draws in the indoor photography is definitely going to see a sharp increase! I’ll have exchange garden foliage in favour of potted plants for my background scenery. However, the beer remains the star of the show and Wilde Child is the brewery in question today. They are a new brewery to me and I’ve just seen a couple of the beers crop up … Continue reading Beer Review: Brownie Huntress – Wilde Child Brewing Co.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was referred to as the ‘Baby-face Assassin’ in his playing days for Manchester United so I thought, with the recent sacking, it was an appropriate time to try the beer of the same name. Rooster’s is a new brewery for me that is based up in Yorkshire. ‘Baby-Face Assassin’ is described as a ‘deceptively drinkable IPA’ due to it coming in at … Continue reading Beer Review: Baby-Faced Assassin – Rooster’s Brewing Co.
Thornbridge’s ‘Pondera’ is a beer that I’ve been meaning to try for a long time, having seen it on their Instagram and supermarket shelves for a decent while now. The beer is a collaboration with Californian brewers Firestone Walker and together they have, naturally, brewed a West Coast IPA. In a world full of soft New England beers I always like to give some crisper … Continue reading Beer Review: Pondera – Thornbridge x Firestone Walker
It’s been a fair old while since I last had a beer from DEYA; one of the biggest names in UK craft beer. However, while in Cornwall recently, a friend of mine spotted this can of ‘Routine Bites Hard’ in the reduction bin of a bottle shop. Half price and still a month in date. I knew it wouldn’t be the freshest but it was … Continue reading Beer Review: Routine Bites Hard – DEYA
Padstow Brewing Comapny, based of course in Padstow, was another new brewery I thought I’d try while I was down in Cornwall last month! The reason I decided to go for this beer specifically, is because 10p of each can sold goes towards the National Lobster Hatchery based in Padstow. It’s a charity that helps conserve vunerbale lobster populations which provide vital income for many … Continue reading Beer Review: Lobster Tale – Padstow Brewing Co.
Verdant Brewing Company recently released the Doubling Down series. Four single hop Double IPAs brewed in collaboration with three different Cornish breweries. The one I picked up while down in Falmouth was the Simcoe edition which was brewed with Perranporth based Black Flag Brewery. All the beers in the series come in at a respectable 8% ABV to solidify that Double IPA status. Visually the … Continue reading Beer Review: Doubling Down (Simcoe) – Verdant x Black Flag
While on my trip to Cornwall, my friends and I paid the popular seaside town of St Ives a visit. It was only the second time I’d been there since my first year of University. As I always do when I visit somewhere new, I’ve got an eye out for the local bottle shops, breweries and pubs. This time around, the location of choice was … Continue reading Beer Review: Back Road East – St Ives Brewery
I recently went on holiday to beautiful Cornwall, and more specifically, my old university stomping ground of Falmouth. Falmouth, has recently got a lot more craft beer heavy with a couple of new bottle shops opening up. It is also the home of the wonderful Verdant Brewing Company so of course I had to grab a can or four of their new releases and old … Continue reading Beer Review: People, Money, Space Time – Verdant Brewing Co.
It’s been far too long since I enjoyed a beer from Buxton Brewery (no guesses where they’re from)! However, they continue to have a presence on the supermarket shelves, particularly those of Tesco by the looks. I picked up King Slayer a little while back and have only just got around to give this big boozy double IPA a go. It comes in at a … Continue reading Beer Review: King Slayer – Buxton Brewery
